Mark Hoppus responds to SPIN editor's blog

February 26, 2009 in News by John

I propose we amend the stimulus package and re-dedicate blink’s share of the stimulus package to some other worthy cause. Like Elton John’s Jane Austen-era sci-fi movie Pride and Predator. Period costumes and animatronic aliens aren’t cheap, you know.

Mark's a good guy

February 25, 2009 in News by John

Spin Magazine just wrote an article about how we should receive some of the $787 billion stimulus package to stop recording and “save them the trouble of reforming for one subpar album. ” Come on, one subpar album? More like “SEVERAL TERRIBLY subpar albums…”

Money, money, money. It's always about money!

February 25, 2009 in News by John

Spin suggests that Mark, Tom and Travis are poor enough to waste US citizens’ money.

The last thing Tom DeLonge, Travis Barker, and Mark Hoppus want to do is get back together. They just made that dour comeback announcement at the Grammys because Travis has medical bills to pay, Tom’s Angels & Airwaves didn’t end up making “the best fucking album anybody has heard in 20 years” like he promised, and Mark… Well, I have no idea what he’s up to. He’s probably just strapped for cash. So, let’s save them the trouble of reforming for one subpar album (’cause how can you improve on an album title like Take Off Your Pants and Jacket?) by just giving them a million bucks each. Word to the wise: Don’t invest it.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

AP, part two

February 20, 2009 in News by John

Alternative Press interviews Mark, part two here. As usually a shor brief for those of you who are lazy as hell:

  • the songs for the new album are not especially written for blink-182, they are just songs written by them individually
  • …but they gain their magic while working together on them
  • the upcoming album will be, like the last one, completly open-minded and not affected by previous releases. Bad or good? Time will tell.
  • this week guys start calling, setting up dates, contracts, etc.
  • there’s no pressure on them with putting out a record on certain date. It’s gonna be out when it’s out, but probably in 2009.
  • afterall, Mark is a very modest and straight-forward person I guess.

New Alternative Press Mark interview

February 20, 2009 in News by John

Probably most of you have already read it, but if not, please click here.

Or if you lazy, here’s what Mark said.

  • how he was nervous a minute before stepping out on stage at Grammy’s
  • that blink-182 reunion idea came to him while they were hanging out in the studio
  • they still haven’t played any song together yet
  • Mark has like 10 songs ready in different stages, Tom has some too, and so does Travis
  • he talked about Jerry Finn passing and how it affected their lives
  • “The Adventure” by Angels and Airwaves is a really cool song, he thought when he heard it for the first time

IGN: Travis mentioned in 10 great punk drummers' list

February 18, 2009 in News by John

Although he’s become a reality show star and tabloid target in the last few years, that doesn’t mean Travis Barker still isn’t one of the greatest drummers the punk world has yet to birth. In the span of a 3-minute pop/punk song, he’ll rock as hard as a death metal drummer in one section while flipping it over to a jazz styled backbeat the next. His fluidity knows no boundaries. It’s no wonder he looks up to forward-thinking musicians like Stewart Copeland (The Police) for inspiration. If you really want to hear Barker let loose, seek out Blink-182’s The Mark, Tom and Travis Show. On the disc it’s almost like someone told the guy he had one night left to play before he died; it’s that relentless.

Or read it directly on IGN, here.
